Exploring the Blurb
Unwind Blurb: The process by which a child is both terminated and kept alive is called 'unwinding'. Unwinding is now common, and accepted practice in society.
In the not-too-distant future, teens Connor, Risa, and Lev are on the run for their lives. Following the Second Civil War, between pro-choice and pro-life forces, the United States now allows parents to unwind their unwanted and difficult kids between the ages of thirteen and eighteen. Their bodies are surgically taken apart and all the organs and tissue are used in other people. According to the law, the kids aren't considered dead, they're "living in a divided state" . But Connor, Risa, and Lev, and thousands of other teens slated for "unwinding, don't see it that way. They choose instead to "kick AWOL", or run away. Unwind follows these three across the country as they travel together, split up, and meet again when their destines cross in a Harvest Camp where they are slated to be unwound.
What is Pro-life and pro-choice groups? What do these term mean?
Pro-life and pro-choice are two different terms that one one term is against abortion and the other isn't. Abortion is a procedure that ends a pregnancy before the unborn child can live outside the mother. Pro-choice emphazises the women's choice whether to terminate a pregnancy. Pro-life proposes the right of the embryo or fetus to gestate to term and be born.
What is organ donation?
Organ Donation is the process of removing tissues or organs from a live, or recently dead, person to be used in another. The former is the donor and the latter is the recipient. People of all ages can become donors. Some organs can be donated by a living person. Almost all organs can be donated by someone dead but this has to reach the recipient within a few hours after the donor's death.
Teenagers to be unwound are sent to Harvest Camps. Can you make a connection between the language used to describe this place, and other places people have been sent to historically?
Harvest camp is just like Concentration Camps. A concentration camp is a place where a government forces many people to live. Usually, those people belong to groups that the government does not like. The government may think these are its enemies. In the past, governments have also put people in concentration camps because they belonged to a certain religion, race, or ethnic group. Usually people are sent to concentration camps without having a trial or being found guilty of a crime. Sometimes, governments send people to concentration camps to do forced labor or to be killed. For example, the best-known concentration camps were run by Nazi Germany during World War II.
What is euphemism and what are some examples?
A euphemism is a polite expression used in place of words or phrases that might otherwise be considered harsh or unpleasant. For example instead of "my friend died" it could be "my friend passed away".
What is the definition of legal?
established by or founded upon law or official or accepted rules.
What is the definition of enthical?
relating to beliefs about what is morally right and wrong
