Online relationships VS real-life relationships

Welcome to another blog-post, this week in Health we are currently learning about relationships.
Today our task was to write a blog post that debated the statement "Online relationships are not as important as real-life relationships", therefore our debate must present both sides of the argument.

In health we discuss the statement "Online relationships can be dangerous sometimes.
Online relationships is not as trustworthy as face to face relationships meaning that you can't see the other person you're talking with, You don't know how they feel, and it's hard to tell their emotions.
One big problem with online relationship is catfish, it is when someone uses a fake identity, such as lie about their age or lie about what they do and where they live.
Ghosting also occurs when you're in an online relationships, how do you feel when someone just leaves you on seen? or how do you feel if you saw a friend at school and just totally ignored you?
It can be hurtful and make you feel sad, it can also lead to depression.

Therefore on the other hand, Online relationships is a great way to communicate with each other such as family members and friends, During lockdown we weren't able to communicate with each other face to face, so we used Google meets to communicate with our teachers about schoolwork. During lockdown churches were also shut down, the only way we could gather together or communicate with church families was through social media. Online-relationships is very useful but can be harmful. If you have social media accounts it's very important that you are aware that you're keeping your identity safe by not sharing any private information.

I personally think that social media is a great source of communication, therefore face to face relationship is more important because you can see their face, know their emotions and you trust them.

Filtration Experiment

Welcome to another blog-post, For Science or Chaos Hurumanu today, We are having a practical/experiment, our experiment today is based on Filtration, meaning separating different sized particles out of a mixture.

Filtration Experiment

Aim: To separate a solution from a precipitate (precipitate is the name for a solid that forms in a liquid during a chemical reaction).

Hypothesis: I think that the small particles will pass through the filter.

1st Observation: Added Copper Sulfate with Sodium carbonate and made a blue liquid.

2nd Observation:  Blue combined liquid into filter paper and came through with Clear liquid.

Images & Video:

Equipment:
Sodium carbonate
Copper sulfate
Conical flask
Stirring rod
200mL beaker
Funnel
Filter Paper

Method:

  1. Pour approximately  50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.
  2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.
  3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel
  4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.
  5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.
  6. Observe what happened.

P.E weekly Blog-Post Week 7

                            Physical Education

Welcome to another blog-post, this week in P.E we have been given the opportunity to manage our own P.E time, we've been given a variety of choices by the teacher such as Table tennis, Juggling, Just Dance, Basketball. On Tuesday I did Table Tennis and Juggling. For Table Tennis we had the tables set up towards the wall so we can practice serving the table tennis balls and trying to get at least 10 accurate hits.
One of the techniques I learnt was to let the ball hit the table first before hitting it, or else your opponent will get a point.
For Juggling I started off by trying to juggle two balls in one hand, personally I think it was very hard because I had to focus on two balls at one.
I learnt to throw the second ball once the other has been released.

On Wednesday, I tried out Just dance with other students in my class. I think we did very well because we were all focusing and we were doing the right thing even when there was no teacher, we were also committed and overall having fun!

Famous New Zealander Biography - Sir Peter Jackson

Welcome to another blog-post, this week in Wananga we had to research about a famous New Zealander that interests us. I decided to research about Sir Peter Jackson because he is one of New Zealand's famous filmmaker.

Textiles - Rag Rug Brainstorm

For textiles we are working on our own projects that we are interested in, I have chosen to work on making a rag rug out of scrap material or old t-shirts. I've decided to make this because it is a good way to reuse old material or clothing rather than just throwing them out!

Bored in the house! In the house bored!

Welcome to another blog-post, this week we have started back at school, this week our main focus is reconnecting with each other as we just have come out of a long time in lockdown. In Wanaga class we did an activity where we had to list emotions that we felt while we were in lockdown, then we had to create a word-cloud art using those emotions. During lockdown I was feeling a variety of emotions, the first week of lockdown was alright till it got boring and I just wanted to get out of the house and hang out with my friends.

  • I felt Nervous during the recent lockdown event when we moved to Alert level 3 and 2 where the restrictions were lifted and we were able to expand our bubbles.
  • I felt Excited when I heard about returning to school because I wanted to see my friends, and I wanted to be out of the house, knowing that school is a safe place!
  • Today I feel happy and grateful about being here at school because I'm finally out of the house, I get to hang out with my friends and It feels like we're going back to normal.

The respiratory System

Welcome to another blog-post, this blog-post shows my learning of what we are currently learning in Science. This week in Medical science, we are learning about the mechanical process of how we breathe (respiratory system). I decided to create a Google Slide showing my understanding of the respiratory system.

Sustainability - Textiles

Welcome to another blog-post. For textiles we are learning about Sustainability, meaning Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Our task was to create our own choice project, meaning we had to research, investigate, create and share the project we have decided on to do.

        Brainstorm
Ideas:

  • T-shirt Quilt: Your favourite t-shirts don't fit anymore? Instead of throwing out your t-shirts, or even dumping them in your cupboard, you could put them all together to create a T-shirt quilt.
  • T-shirt Wreath: Do you like DIY house decor? You could make a T-shirt wreath. It's nice and bright, it looks super cute with all of the pops of colour. What a great way to welcome people into your home.
  • T-shirt Pillows: This is a brilliant creative idea, it's also like the T-shirt quilt.

Project: T-shirt Bag
It's a scary statistic but we can all do small things to help our earth! Using reusable bags or totes is a very easy way for us to do our part. It is a great replacement to buying reusable bags or taking groceries home in plastic bags from stores and much more fashionable! They are durable and will last long.
To do the magic all you will need is an old t-shirt and a pair of scissors
  1. Cut sleeves off of shirt: You can use a short or long sleeved t-shirt. It won't matter since you will be cutting the sleeves off anyway. Using a sharp pair of scissors cut the sleeves of your shirt off.
  2. Cut Neck out of shirt: You can use a large bowl and draw around it on your fabric to get a nice rounded scoop shape or just eyeball it and cut the scoop.
  3. Cut slits and tie knots: At the bottom of the shirt cut slits about every inch through both layers (length will depend on the size of the shirt) long enough that you will be able to tie them twice. Remember the t-shirt will stretch with weight. Keep the slits lined up and starting with one end tie the aligning front and back pieces together in double knots until you have done the entire row.
We can also decorate out our house with T-shirt pom poms and T-shirt rugs among other things. So the next time you are thinking about throwing away or donating the old shirts or clothes - think about the other things they could be used for!

Wonder Film Study - Treacher Collins Syndrome

Welcome to another blog-post, below are poster that I created for each research question. For English we are working on the film wonder, and the main character (Auggie) has Treachers Collins Syndrome.

Wonder Film study - Understand how characters are developed in a film:

Characters are the people the story is about. In visual text the plot usually centers around a group of lead characters. For this task I had to Identify 2-3 character strength in August (Auggie) main character in Wonder, and one other character of my choice.

Auggie - Bravery
In the film Auggie has to show bravery quite frequently because of his deformity and the difficulties he faces along with it. Early in the film, he shows bravery on the first day of school. He's very afraid and tells his mother the night before about his worries and fears. In this case Auggie is going to be attending school for the very first time; He was home schooled by his mother ever since he was young.
However, he preservers and goes to school.  In spite of trying to hide his face and the way in which he eats, he does eventually make a couple of friends that first day.

A second incident that shows bravery is when Auggie is at a camp. A group of bullies are picking on him and his friends because of how he looks, and the group pushes his friend Jack to the ground. Auggie steps in and faces the bully, even though he is  a lot smaller than him, which shows a lot of character and bravery.

Why is it important to be brave in real life?
Bravery is important in life because, we need bravery to face our fears and overcome obstacles in our life. Facing fear in life can help you succeed in life. For example, you could be able to speak in front of a big crowd.

Auggie - Humour
In the film, Auggie was naturally funny. Sometimes he didn't know he had made a humorous remark until somebody started laughing. A scene where Auggie was showing a character of humour was when he was having lunch with Jack, that scene was the beginning to Auggie and Jack's friendship, Auggie displayed a different side of himself, he was all happy and laughing, enjoying his lunch together with Jack while telling jokes.

Why a sense of humour is an essential like skill?
Studies have shown that a sense of humour can improve your mental and physical health, boost your attractiveness, and improve your leadership skills. Being funny is possibly one of the best things you can do for your health.

Via - Love
However, Via is someone whose own life has been profoundly affected by Auggie's condition, it is clear right away that she often feels neglected and overshadowed. Via is in an extremely difficult position, wanting to be treated as a more important part of her family but also feeling guilty about her desire for attention, therefore she patiently keeps it to herself, also Via lover he brother very much and she understands that he's going through a hard time, Via loves her brother that she hates when people react or stare unkindly when they see Auggie's appearance.

Why is love important in our life?
Without love, money loses value. Love is more important than money. You work to provide for yourself and your family. Having the love of someone is very important, because humans are very sociable, and it is very important to have close relationships with people you can always turn to.

Via - Forgiveness
Therefore Via was trying to fit into high school, she was also facing problems with her best friend Miranda. Miranda has been acting very weird lately that eventually she starts to ignore and avoid Via. Via went through a lot, not only did Via lose her best friend, she feels like she doesn't get much attention from her family, and sometimes Via feels that Miranda was going against her. But later on Via learns what happened to Miranda and she eventually found forgiveness for Miranda, even though Miranda left her, via forgave her and became best friends again.

Importance of forgiveness:
Forgiveness is for our growth and happiness. When we hold onto hurt, pain, resentment, and anger it harms us far more than the offender. Forgiveness frees us to live in the present. Forgiveness allows us to move on without anger or contempt or seeking revenge.

Anxiety - Health

Welcome to another blog-post, Below is a Slideshow of one of our set task in Health.
We were to pick a mental health issue and explain different ways of how we can cope with them. I picked Anxiety.

The Cardio-Vascular System

Welcome to another blog-post. In Physical Education we were taught about the Cardio-Vascular, and were given a research project, we had to research the question below and be able to understand and explain about the Cardio-Vascular System.

What is the Cardio-Vascular System?
The cardio-vascular system refers to the heart, blood vessels and the blood. Blood contains oxygen and other nutrients which your body needs to survive. The body takes these essential nutrients from the blood.

What does the heart look like?
Your heart is a muscle. It's located a little to your left of the middle of your chest, and it's about the size of your fist. But the heart muscle is special because of what it does. The heart sends blood around your body. The blood provides your body with the oxygen and nutrients it needs. It also carries away waste.

Why do we need blood to be pumped around the body?
The main reason of your heart is to pump blood to the organs and tissues of your body that requires the oxygen and nutrients it provides. Oxygen-rich blood is pumped out of the left side of your heart into the arteries to these tissues and organs.

What is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is a measurement used in medicine. In the body, the arteries carry blood away from the heart. As blood travels through the arteries, it presses against the walls of the arteries. Blood pressure measure how hard the blood is pushing against the walls of the arteries.

Why does your pulse increase when you exercise?
When you are exercising, your muscles need extra oxygen - some three as much as resting muscles. This need means that your heart starts pumping faster, which makes for a quicker pulse. Meanwhile, your lungs are also taking in more air, hence the harder breathing.

Respiratory System Slideshow P.E

Respiratory System
Hi there, below is a Google Slideshow showing my understand of the Respiratory System.

The History of Netball - P.E

🇳🇪🇹🇧🇦🇱🇱
Hi there, This blog post is going to be all about the history of Netball and how it has evolved over the years.

Introduction to Netball:
Netball is a fast-paced, non-contact sport enjoyed by men and women.
Originally developed from basketball t has been played since the 1890's. It is similar to basketball, but with some crucial differences such as no running with the ball and no dribbling. Each goal is worth one point and there is no backboard. It is played by 20 million people in more than 70 countries. Netball is one of my favourite sports to play, It's a fun team game that involves cooperation, communication and resilient.

Where did it Originate?
Netball originated in the United States, as basketball. Women's basketball began to be played in New Zealand around the start of the 20th Century, and was promoted by the Reverend J.C. Jamie-son.There were nine in a team, playing on grass courts. Because women's heavy clothes restricted movement, they passed the ball, from hand to hand instead of dribbling it. Imagine having to play Netball in uncomfortable clothes such as heavy skirts?

Famous Netball Players:
  • Irene Van Dyk
  • Maria Folau
  • Casey Kopua
Irene Van Dyk (born 21 June 1972) is a netball player who was born and bred in South Africa but quickly became one of New Zealand's favourite sporting personalities. She is a goal-shooter and is considered one of the world's best known netballer and the most capped international player of all time. Irene Van Dyk is a fascinating netballer who is skilled with superb height, unbelievable power and supernatural accurateness. She is simply one of the best shooters in the world and often manages to shoot with 100 percent accuracy. The most striking weapon Van Dyk has is her wide split of legs after receiving the ball. She uses this to control herself and more closer to the goalpost increasing her changes of making the shot or rebounding after a missed shot. Van Dyk was a world Netball Championships Gold Medallist in 2003, a commonwealth Games Medallist in 2006 and 2010 and a world Netball Series Gold Medallist in 2009 and 2012. She became the New Zealand Sportswoman of the year in 2003. She is a true inspiration!

Maria Folau is one of my favourite netball players! Maria was born 18th February 1987 in Tokoroa, stands at 1.88 tall and is a current member of the Silver Ferns and Northern Mystic Team. A naturally gifted shooter, Maria Folau has been a mainstay of the Silver Ferns for over a decade. One of the most feared shooters in World Netball, with her uncanny skill of being able to convert shots from all points of the circle, Folau made her debut for the Silver Ferns in 2005, the same year she was part of the world Youth Championship - winning NZ U21 team. A graceful athlete, Folau has continued to evolve.

Casey Kopua is a native of New Zealand who was born on June 19, 1985, in Hamilton New Zealand. Casey may Kopua is a professional NZ Netball player who captained the New Zealand national team. She currently leads the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic of the ANZ championship as its captain. Previously, she played for the Waikato University team. She plays the positions GK and GD. A match-winner and one of the game's greatest defenders, Kopua showed her durability when returning from a nine-month lay-off, recovering and rehabilitating from a serious knee injury, to lead the team at National World Cup Sydney 2015. Kopua brought a strong work ethic to the Netball court while being fiercely proud and loyal to the core. Setting the on-court standards with her strength in the air.

Netball is an intergal part of New Zealand's dynamic sporting culture, steeped in history, it was introduced to New Zealand as "women's basketball" in 1906 - a nine-a-side game played on grass, with baskets tied to posts at either side of the court. As netball spread to British colonies, it began to develop independently in different places. Rules changed according to location, and team sizes ranged from five to nine players on court at any on time. The rules were not standadrised until almost 60 years later when the International Federation of Women's Basketball and Netball Associations was developed. The rules were officially standardised in 1960 at a conference in Sri Lanka, which was attended by representatives from Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, The west Indies and England. In 2008, a shortened variation of Netball called "Fast 5" was introduced for the first time. It features a number of rule changes and modifications, including 'power plays', long range shots, and shorter six minutes quarters.
