Margaret Mahy - EOTC Week - Wananga

During our EOTC week trip we will be visiting the Margaret Mahy Playground. Alongside the Avon River, just a couple of blocks from Cathedral Square, lies the most fun to have come out of the post-quake rebuild. In the biggest playground south of the equator, more than two hectares are devoted to supplying the means for play and adventure of all sorts, appealing to a wide range of ages.

Margaret Mahy Family Playground is an all-ages, all-abilities playground which can be used to hold outdoor events.

But what is the meaning behind the name of this famous playground?

The playground is named for Margaret Mahy, New Zealand's famous children's author. After it was reported in January 2016 that the slide got so hot during sunny summer days that it blistered fingers, shade sails were installed. Who is Margaret Mahy?
