Wonder Film study - Understand how characters are developed in a film:

Characters are the people the story is about. In visual text the plot usually centers around a group of lead characters. For this task I had to Identify 2-3 character strength in August (Auggie) main character in Wonder, and one other character of my choice.

Auggie - Bravery
In the film Auggie has to show bravery quite frequently because of his deformity and the difficulties he faces along with it. Early in the film, he shows bravery on the first day of school. He's very afraid and tells his mother the night before about his worries and fears. In this case Auggie is going to be attending school for the very first time; He was home schooled by his mother ever since he was young.
However, he preservers and goes to school.  In spite of trying to hide his face and the way in which he eats, he does eventually make a couple of friends that first day.

A second incident that shows bravery is when Auggie is at a camp. A group of bullies are picking on him and his friends because of how he looks, and the group pushes his friend Jack to the ground. Auggie steps in and faces the bully, even though he is  a lot smaller than him, which shows a lot of character and bravery.

Why is it important to be brave in real life?
Bravery is important in life because, we need bravery to face our fears and overcome obstacles in our life. Facing fear in life can help you succeed in life. For example, you could be able to speak in front of a big crowd.

Auggie - Humour
In the film, Auggie was naturally funny. Sometimes he didn't know he had made a humorous remark until somebody started laughing. A scene where Auggie was showing a character of humour was when he was having lunch with Jack, that scene was the beginning to Auggie and Jack's friendship, Auggie displayed a different side of himself, he was all happy and laughing, enjoying his lunch together with Jack while telling jokes.

Why a sense of humour is an essential like skill?
Studies have shown that a sense of humour can improve your mental and physical health, boost your attractiveness, and improve your leadership skills. Being funny is possibly one of the best things you can do for your health.

Via - Love
However, Via is someone whose own life has been profoundly affected by Auggie's condition, it is clear right away that she often feels neglected and overshadowed. Via is in an extremely difficult position, wanting to be treated as a more important part of her family but also feeling guilty about her desire for attention, therefore she patiently keeps it to herself, also Via lover he brother very much and she understands that he's going through a hard time, Via loves her brother that she hates when people react or stare unkindly when they see Auggie's appearance.

Why is love important in our life?
Without love, money loses value. Love is more important than money. You work to provide for yourself and your family. Having the love of someone is very important, because humans are very sociable, and it is very important to have close relationships with people you can always turn to.

Via - Forgiveness
Therefore Via was trying to fit into high school, she was also facing problems with her best friend Miranda. Miranda has been acting very weird lately that eventually she starts to ignore and avoid Via. Via went through a lot, not only did Via lose her best friend, she feels like she doesn't get much attention from her family, and sometimes Via feels that Miranda was going against her. But later on Via learns what happened to Miranda and she eventually found forgiveness for Miranda, even though Miranda left her, via forgave her and became best friends again.

Importance of forgiveness:
Forgiveness is for our growth and happiness. When we hold onto hurt, pain, resentment, and anger it harms us far more than the offender. Forgiveness frees us to live in the present. Forgiveness allows us to move on without anger or contempt or seeking revenge.

Anxiety - Health

Welcome to another blog-post, Below is a Slideshow of one of our set task in Health.
We were to pick a mental health issue and explain different ways of how we can cope with them. I picked Anxiety.

The Cardio-Vascular System

Welcome to another blog-post. In Physical Education we were taught about the Cardio-Vascular, and were given a research project, we had to research the question below and be able to understand and explain about the Cardio-Vascular System.

What is the Cardio-Vascular System?
The cardio-vascular system refers to the heart, blood vessels and the blood. Blood contains oxygen and other nutrients which your body needs to survive. The body takes these essential nutrients from the blood.

What does the heart look like?
Your heart is a muscle. It's located a little to your left of the middle of your chest, and it's about the size of your fist. But the heart muscle is special because of what it does. The heart sends blood around your body. The blood provides your body with the oxygen and nutrients it needs. It also carries away waste.

Why do we need blood to be pumped around the body?
The main reason of your heart is to pump blood to the organs and tissues of your body that requires the oxygen and nutrients it provides. Oxygen-rich blood is pumped out of the left side of your heart into the arteries to these tissues and organs.

What is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is a measurement used in medicine. In the body, the arteries carry blood away from the heart. As blood travels through the arteries, it presses against the walls of the arteries. Blood pressure measure how hard the blood is pushing against the walls of the arteries.

Why does your pulse increase when you exercise?
When you are exercising, your muscles need extra oxygen - some three as much as resting muscles. This need means that your heart starts pumping faster, which makes for a quicker pulse. Meanwhile, your lungs are also taking in more air, hence the harder breathing.

Respiratory System Slideshow P.E

Respiratory System
Hi there, below is a Google Slideshow showing my understand of the Respiratory System.

The History of Netball - P.E

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ฑ
Hi there, This blog post is going to be all about the history of Netball and how it has evolved over the years.

Introduction to Netball:
Netball is a fast-paced, non-contact sport enjoyed by men and women.
Originally developed from basketball t has been played since the 1890's. It is similar to basketball, but with some crucial differences such as no running with the ball and no dribbling. Each goal is worth one point and there is no backboard. It is played by 20 million people in more than 70 countries. Netball is one of my favourite sports to play, It's a fun team game that involves cooperation, communication and resilient.

Where did it Originate?
Netball originated in the United States, as basketball. Women's basketball began to be played in New Zealand around the start of the 20th Century, and was promoted by the Reverend J.C. Jamie-son.There were nine in a team, playing on grass courts. Because women's heavy clothes restricted movement, they passed the ball, from hand to hand instead of dribbling it. Imagine having to play Netball in uncomfortable clothes such as heavy skirts?

Famous Netball Players:
  • Irene Van Dyk
  • Maria Folau
  • Casey Kopua
Irene Van Dyk (born 21 June 1972) is a netball player who was born and bred in South Africa but quickly became one of New Zealand's favourite sporting personalities. She is a goal-shooter and is considered one of the world's best known netballer and the most capped international player of all time. Irene Van Dyk is a fascinating netballer who is skilled with superb height, unbelievable power and supernatural accurateness. She is simply one of the best shooters in the world and often manages to shoot with 100 percent accuracy. The most striking weapon Van Dyk has is her wide split of legs after receiving the ball. She uses this to control herself and more closer to the goalpost increasing her changes of making the shot or rebounding after a missed shot. Van Dyk was a world Netball Championships Gold Medallist in 2003, a commonwealth Games Medallist in 2006 and 2010 and a world Netball Series Gold Medallist in 2009 and 2012. She became the New Zealand Sportswoman of the year in 2003. She is a true inspiration!

Maria Folau is one of my favourite netball players! Maria was born 18th February 1987 in Tokoroa, stands at 1.88 tall and is a current member of the Silver Ferns and Northern Mystic Team. A naturally gifted shooter, Maria Folau has been a mainstay of the Silver Ferns for over a decade. One of the most feared shooters in World Netball, with her uncanny skill of being able to convert shots from all points of the circle, Folau made her debut for the Silver Ferns in 2005, the same year she was part of the world Youth Championship - winning NZ U21 team. A graceful athlete, Folau has continued to evolve.

Casey Kopua is a native of New Zealand who was born on June 19, 1985, in Hamilton New Zealand. Casey may Kopua is a professional NZ Netball player who captained the New Zealand national team. She currently leads the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic of the ANZ championship as its captain. Previously, she played for the Waikato University team. She plays the positions GK and GD. A match-winner and one of the game's greatest defenders, Kopua showed her durability when returning from a nine-month lay-off, recovering and rehabilitating from a serious knee injury, to lead the team at National World Cup Sydney 2015. Kopua brought a strong work ethic to the Netball court while being fiercely proud and loyal to the core. Setting the on-court standards with her strength in the air.

Netball is an intergal part of New Zealand's dynamic sporting culture, steeped in history, it was introduced to New Zealand as "women's basketball" in 1906 - a nine-a-side game played on grass, with baskets tied to posts at either side of the court. As netball spread to British colonies, it began to develop independently in different places. Rules changed according to location, and team sizes ranged from five to nine players on court at any on time. The rules were not standadrised until almost 60 years later when the International Federation of Women's Basketball and Netball Associations was developed. The rules were officially standardised in 1960 at a conference in Sri Lanka, which was attended by representatives from Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, The west Indies and England. In 2008, a shortened variation of Netball called "Fast 5" was introduced for the first time. It features a number of rule changes and modifications, including 'power plays', long range shots, and shorter six minutes quarters.
