Malala Yousafzai was born in the Swat district of northwestern Pakistan, where her father was a school owner and was active in educational issues. After having blogged for the BBC since 2009 about her experience during the Taliban's growing influence in the region, in 2012 the Taliban attempted to assassinate Malala Yousafzai on the bus home from school. She survived, but continues her work for the right of girls to education.

Malala Yousafzai Timeline - Power to the People Timeline

This week in Power to the People hurumanu, we have been learning about Heroes and Villains. This Hurumanu is about learning about the political life, heroes, people who run our country and seeing different role and role models there are. Villains are characters whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot. As with most stories out there. But they fail to be more than the heroes themselves because of their lack of good judgement or belief in whats right, or at least they choose to ignore it and follow their path. A part of our learning about Heroes and Villains we had to create a timeline about a leader who we think inspires me, I chose Malala because I've read a lot about her and knowing what someone like her was capable of doing is incredible.
